Fountain Hills Community,
We know many of you are patiently waiting for our Town Council race to be officially decided and it clear who the top two vote getters were in the November 5th general election. With seven (7) votes separating Peggy McMahon and Mathew Corrigan for the second of two available council seats, a recount is required. We want to briefly explain the process as we know it is a rare occurrence and can feel convoluted.
Today, Wednesday, November 20th, our Town Council will hold a special meeting at 5pm in order to canvass (certify) the election results. This must occur prior to any recount commencing.
Additionally, Maricopa County is set to canvass the County's election results on Thursday, November 21st. Again, this is a step that has to precede any recount.
Once these steps are met, a recount can then commence following the appropriate legal steps. We expect that process to happen Friday, which the County will then work to begin the recount, with tabulation and adjudication going forward in the days ahead.
Once the recount is complete, a hearing will take place where the results are unsealed and winners declared.
We appreciate your patience during this process.
