When temperatures begin to rise in late spring, so do heat-related illnesses. Last year, Maricopa County saw 645 heat-related deaths, a 52 percent increase from the previous year.
Though Fountain Hills is no stranger to hot weather, residents need to understand the symptoms of heat illness and help our older population and the more vulnerable stay safe during the hottest months of the year.
Town of Fountain Hills Mayor Ginny Dickey said, “We are an active outdoor community, but even those who avoid being exposed to the hottest part of the day can be vulnerable to heat-related illness. Being aware and prepared can be a lifesaver for us... and our pets."
The Town of Fountain Hills has assembled information from regional agencies, including the Maricopa County Health Department, the City of Phoenix, the Maricopa Association of Governments (MAG), and the Arizona Department of Health Services, which is crucial for your safety and well-being.
The information can be found at www.fountainhillsaz.gov/Public-Safety .
