The Town of Fountain Hills Public Works Department and contracted crews are actively responding to storm-related debris throughout the community that is the result of last week's heavy rainfall. The Town's highest priority is to ensure safe and open roadways for emergency services, residents, and visitors.
Cleanup Priorities
Cleanup efforts are conducted according to roadway classification:
- Arterial Roads – Major roadways that carry the most traffic and are critical for emergency response.
- Collector Roads – Secondary routes that connect neighborhoods to main arterials.
- Local (Residential) Streets – Neighborhood roadways serving homes and local access.
- Alleys – Cleaned last, once higher-priority roadways are safe and passable.
- Sidewalks and Multi-use paths – Cleared after roadways to restore pedestrian and bicycle access for residents and recreation.
Cleanup Process
Street department crews follow a multi-step process to restore safe travel and drainage conditions:
- Large debris piles are removed first.
- Remaining smaller debris is swept into gutters or placed along curbs.
- Street sweepers follow to collect and remove as much remaining debris as possible.
- Crews then clear drainage structures, removing built-up debris that could restrict water flow.
- Sediment and drop basins located in washes are pumped if standing water remains.
Depending on the severity of the storm and the amount of rainfall, these efforts can take several days or, in some cases, weeks to fully complete.
Town staff appreciate the patience and cooperation of all residents as these essential recovery efforts move forward. If you have questions or need to report a specific roadway concern, please contact the Town of Fountain Hills Public Works Department at 480-816-5133.
