FOUNTAIN HILLS, AZ (October 31st, 2024) - With the snip of the scissors, a ribbon-cutting on a brisk evening marked the official reveal of a new shade structure and renovated Centennial Pavilion.
Positioned near the community center, library, and future site of the International Dark Sky Discovery Center, the renovated Centennial Pavilion now features an eye-catching 80-foot artistic shade structure. This versatile addition is ready to host everything from casual gatherings and meetups to concerts, special events, and even weddings.
“This is one of the coolest structures,” said Community Services Director Kevin Snipes with the Town of Fountain Hills. “I think it’s going to be a fantastic addition to the Centennial Pavilion.”
The Town collaborated with a vendor to create a uniquely sized and designed structure. The absence of a central pole keeps the area open, making it adaptable and accessible year-round.
“[It’s] going to prove to be a fantastic spot for people to hang out and do things,” Snipes said.
The renovation also includes new benches around the Centennial Pavilion, along with a striking art piece called the Arizona State Donor Puzzle. This galvanized and stainless-steel sculpture replicates the state of Arizona, and individual puzzle pieces can be purchased for $1,000. Purchases allow for a dedication to a group, in memory of a loved one, or to recognize a business, with up to 30 characters per piece. Buyers can choose any available spot on the Arizona replica.
“I just think it’s awesome to watch the puzzle pieces go in,” Snipes said. “And see that you’re part of something that’s doing something bigger for this Town.”
Funds from puzzle piece sales support the shade structure, and the Donor Puzzle will remain at Centennial Pavilion as long as the structure stands.
