Support Group Facilitators create a safe, open environment where people share their feelings, thoughts, and experience in a combined effort to better cope with and manage the shared problems of dementia. The goal of support groups is to provide emotional, social and/or educational support to group members.
Facilitator: The facilitator is with Home Instead Senior Care and is trained by the Alzheimer's Association as a Support Group facilitator.
Home Instead also provides a licensed caregiver to assist with the caregiver's loved one in an activity during the group meetings.
Caregivers come from all ethnic, geographic and racial backgrounds. There are wide variations in the conditions of those who are receiving help, the kinds of assistance needed, the level of caregiver burden and self-perceptions of caregivers and their willingness to utilize the formal service delivery system. Remember the old adage, "Trouble shared is trouble halved."
